Keeping gallery order after download
In short: phones sort photos by capture date, computers by file name. With Keep the gallery order on, the client’s files get both in your order — so they look the same as in the gallery. Your originals don’t change.
Turn it on
Section titled “Turn it on”- Open the gallery and click Downloads on the left.
- Turn on Keep the gallery order. It is on in a new gallery.
The order is the client’s gallery order: the one you set in Ordering photos, section by section.
What changes in the client’s files
Section titled “What changes in the client’s files”- Capture date. Each copy gets the gallery’s Shoot date (or the day the gallery was created), around noon in your account’s time zone, one second apart in gallery order. The Photos app on iPhone and Android, and Windows Photos, then show them in your order.
- File names in a ZIP. Each name starts with its place:
001_IMG_4512.jpg,002_…. Finder and Explorer sort by name, so the folder looks like your gallery. In the whole-gallery archive the numbering runs through all section folders.
Your stored originals and what you see in the cabinet stay exactly as uploaded.
Which files get the dates
Section titled “Which files get the dates”- JPEG — originals and every For phone and social media copy (always a JPEG).
- HEIC, PNG and WebP originals keep their own capture dates. In a ZIP they still get the number in the name. If a client saves HEIC originals to Photos and the order matters, suggest For phone and social media.
With it off
Section titled “With it off”ZIP names have no numbers, and every file in a ZIP carries the same file date. Single originals keep the camera’s date.
If it didn’t work
Section titled “If it didn’t work”- The client says the order is different on iPhone. Ask which size they saved; see the HEIC note above. Client guide: Why photos appear in a different order.
- The order is wrong in the gallery itself. Fix it in Ordering photos; new downloads follow it.
