Someone tried to guess the password

In short: too many wrong passwords were typed into the gallery, so entry by password is paused. Clients who are already in keep viewing. Generate a new password and send it to the client — entry opens at once.

All passwords and participant codes of a gallery share one budget of attempts:

  • 5 wrong attempts from one internet address in 15 minutes → that address waits 15 minutes;
  • 100 wrong attempts in an hour → entry is closed for everyone for 1 hour;
  • 200 in a day → closed for 24 hours.

The client sees “Wrong password. Attempts left: …”, then “Too many attempts. Ask the photographer to update the password.”

When entry to the gallery is closed, you get a notification in the bell and an email (once a day), and the home page shows it under Needs attention. In the gallery’s Access group it says: “Someone tried to guess the gallery password — generate a new one.”

  1. On the home page tap Change password, or open the gallery’s Access group.
  2. Tap ⋯ on the access whose password may have leaked — usually the main one.
  3. Tap Generate a new password, then Save.
  4. Send the new password to that client with Share.

A new password reopens entry to the gallery right away and the warning disappears. The old one stops working, so only this access’s clients sign in again; other accesses keep theirs.

  • The client has the right password but still can’t get in. Entry is paused — generate a new password, or wait until the pause ends.
  • It keeps happening. The link may have been posted somewhere. Check who you sent it to, and consider a separate access for each person.
